Carbon fibre has the highest tensile and compressive strength of all the reinforced materials (composite materials), it has a high strength to weight ratio and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The density of carbon fibre is also much lower than the density of steel making it a lighter alternative for applications. Carbon fibre is in the form of several thousand long, thin strands of material that is composed of mostly carbon atoms. In production these stands are bonded with a matrix and formed into shapes to create the stiff and lightweight Bouwmeester products you see as the consumer.

WUm2 Gen. II Carbon Technology
With another year of development our WUm2 Gen. II carbon technology has further evolved to significantly increase the UTS (Ultimate Tensile Strength) and performance characteristics of our rims. Our specific use of high modulus woven and unidirectional carbon in a multilayer matrix, combined with our refined lay-up techniques and proprietary Tru wall technology have increased the lateral stiffness by a further 11% and decreased weight on average by 15%. The use of unidirectional carbon is chosen for its torsional and lateral stiffness where the woven fabric is used to support high load areas. The matrix of these fibres evenly spreads the generated forces during power output and loads produced during riding. Bouwmeesters WUm2 Gen. II carbon technology optimises the ride quality, maintains strength through lateral and torsional stiffness while minimising overall weight.
