SiN G5 bearings

When purchasing wheels the often forgotten element in the package are the bearings. Bearings are central to the performance of an elite wheelset. The most important features of a bearing relating to performance, smoothness and longevity is ball size and quantity, method of retention in the bearing race, seals, materials used and the manufacturing tolerances. In contrast with other sub standard bearings ours have an increased ball size and quantity which minimises friction and optimises rolling resistance. Bouwmeester’s high precision SiN G5 bearings have a high static capacity and offer low resistance in every revolution, this means faster average speeds and more efficient riding.

Why Ceramic?
For the ultimate in performance we offer our SiN G5 ceramic bearings in our hub sets standard. Our bearings are a sealed, hybrid ceramic bearing with the balls made of Si3N4 (Silicon Nitride). Si3n4 is the lightest material a bearing can be made from and is also the hardest and most durable. Silicon Nitride Ceramic is up to 60% lighter in weight and 7 times harder than steel, does not corrode like steel and does not suffer from magnetic impulses. Ceramic bearings almost offer a zero level of friction offering you the smoothest, fastest, lightest and most efficient ride available.

With the technologically advanced properties of the ceramic bearing it offers unmatched performance with rolling resistance and durability. Tests have shown silicon nitride balls and ring combination can increase efficiency by up to 10% compared to the standard steel configuration. This can equate to saving over 2 watts in a race wheelset at a speed of 30km/h. The bearings in Bouwmeester hubs are produced from a variety of exotic material which is made to the highest of tolerances offering a super high precision bearing. To compliment these high tolerances we use Bouwmeester NSK ?? bearing grease to optimise performance and durability.
