2009 Idol hubset

Our hubs for 2009 have been completely redesigned and we are proud to release our new Idol hubset. We have gone back to the drawing board (CAD more so) to not only lighten the hub but also increase strength and reduce rolling resistance even further. We wanted to not only make a hub that was distinctively competitive in its own right but also design it specifically to work in unison with our wheelsets to increase torsional and lateral stiffness.

Confirmed by our testing our revised design with straight pull spokes optimises the tangential angles of the spokes in relation to the hub flange PCD, aiding in the overall strength of the wheelset. This has also further improved the spoke entry angle into the rim which compliments the benefits of our Pro Radius nipples.

To advance the stiffness of our wheelset we have opted for a crossed lacing pattern on all flanges, front and rear. While radial lacing being known for its lateral stiffness it suffers from torsional forces, our research and testing has found utilizing straight pull spokes in a crossed pattern further increase torsional stiffness and increase power transfer efficiency. Directly compared to our 2008 models we have increased torsional stiffness by 16% and lateral stiffness by 11% with the combination of our new rims, hub and spoke combinations.

For our 2009 hubs ceramic bearings are standard, yes that’s right ‘standard’. No more need to worry about upgrades; we are setting a new industry benchmark with offering our Sin G5 ceramic bearings in all our elite wheelsets at no extra charge.
